Logistics Meets AI: Adding Copilot to [ICS] Transportation Package
Discover how Copilot-powered features are streamlining transportation workflows and enhancing decision-making in [ICS] Transportation Package.
Modern businesses are increasingly integrating information systems to boost efficiency and productivity. Out of the box, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management (D365SCM) provides both core functionality, such as the TMS module for transportation management automation, and specialized functionality, such as the Landed Cost module for automating inbound supply with landed cost calculations.
However, several tasks – such as last mile delivery planning with transportation resource assignment – fall outside the scope of standard tools. To address these gaps, companies turn to ISV solutions, such as [ICS] Transportation Package.
As we know, artificial intelligence (AI) has already made significant breakthroughs in many areas. It excels at processing text and images, identifying patterns in data, modelling flows, and more. The corporate sector is increasingly expecting tangible benefits from applying AI in ERP systems as well.
Microsoft has already embedded Copilot into its Dynamics 365 suite, giving users access to AI capabilities that enhance both the experience and functionality of finance and operations applications. Specifically in D365SCM, Copilot currently provides the following capabilities:
- Sidecar chat – A natural language chat experience that helps users interact with application data and functionality.
Confirmed purchase order with changes workspace – A workspace to help users understand and react to changes in confirmed purchase orders.
Warehouse mobile app insights – A workload page providing summaries and AI-generated insights to help warehouse workers better plan their shifts.
Automatic summaries for selected forms – A quick overview of the most important information that’s related to the page, personalized for the current user.
Looking ahead, we expect Copilot to evolve toward active agents capable of autonomously handling routine operational tasks. Our team is fully committed to keeping [ICS] Transportation Package aligned with Microsoft’s AI roadmap and has already introduced the first wave of Copilot-powered features into it.
Copilot in [ICS] Transportation Package
The first step when interacting with Copilot is the query “What can I do in TMS?”, which returns a list of available commands (prompts).

All new prompts are configured through Copilot Studio, with each prompt linked to a dedicated flow that retrieves and processes data in D365SCM.
Examples of use cases:
► Last mile delivery planning
Suppose a logistics planner needs to know the transportation demand. Previously, this could be viewed via the Outbound load planning workbench form or Power BI reports. Now it can be done simply by asking Copilot.

► Load creation
We are developing scenarios where Copilot generates proposed loads with automatic assignment of transportation resources upon request and suggests how to assign resources to all loads in case of a shortage.
► Route creation
If a new route is required for a load, Copilot can generate it via a prompt and instantly visualize it on a map.

► Sending routes by email
A single command is enough to generate and send an email containing route details.

► Viewing assigned resources
Copilot can display information on transportation resources assigned to loads.

► Accessing documentation
Users can request [ICS] Transportation Package documentation directly via Copilot.

Extended Capabilities
It is important to emphasize that Copilot is not just about controlling the system through natural language commands. Its real power lies in in applying AI models to more complex scenarios, such as:
- Automatic freight invoice creation based on PDF data.
- Creating new AI agents to automate tasks between users and carriers.
These examples illustrate how Copilot enables faster execution of system operations with fewer steps, ultimately improving the efficiency of logistics teams and
businesses as a whole.
